One of the most powerful illustration styles these days is the anime/manga one. But this Japanese style has a grandfather, and it looks amazing. It’s the ukiyo-e, which is a genre of woodblock prints and paintings that flourished in Japan from the 17th through 19th centuries (thanks Wikipedia).
Fortunately this fine art is not dead and until to this very day we get find artists venturing in this style, but with a new, awesome new perspective: pop culture heroes! Today we’re featuring ukiyo-e done by Jed Henry, the man behind these amazing artworks. For more of his work, please visit his portfolio at DeviantART and his Ukiyo-e Heroes store. I hope you enjoy these! Cheers. 😉
